Warts on the face are small, rough and raised bumps. They are both quite common and harmless. The only problem usually relates to aesthetic reasons. It is a fact that no one likes to have these ‘horrible creatures’ on one’s face.

Facial warts can group together in clusters. The clusters are usually not too large, but they can build up to 100 warts in some cases. They commonly come in two different forms; flat warts or common warts.

Children have a proclivity for having a larger number of warts on their faces than adults. This is partially due to the fact that they have underdeveloped immune systems. Viruses and bacteria are protected from invading the body by the body’s immune system and facial warts are due to a virus that is known as the human papilloma virus (or HPV). The human papilloma virus is contagious and penetrates the skin from the injuries such as abrasions or scratches.

You can get rid of facial warts with a variety of methods ranging from surgery to over-the-counter treatments and home remedies.

Surgical procedures such as cryosurgery, laser therapy or electrosurgery must be performed by a licensed doctor. All of these procedures cause pain and it can take a long time to heal. Treatment for one wart may take several office visits.

Another downside is this can cause scarring. Remember that you are treating the face and any scarring might be as unattractive as the removed wart was in the first place.

Because of these and other problems, there is no agreement as to whether such wart removal methods should be used on children.

There are additional kinds of prescription remedies that are applied to the skin, for instance, creams and gels. There are many home remedies which have been around for years, like using duct tape, garlic, or vinegar.

Never lose sight of the fact that your face is going to be affected. Some of non-prescription and home wart remedies may be quite acidic and could result in scarring. Although they may be adequate to treat other kinds of warts such as those on the feet, they may not be adequate for treating facial warts. You might never notice a small wart under one of your feet.

But facial scars are a much different situation. Get as much information as you can about the method you are using and potential negative effects. If you have any misgivings, get a second opinion. You cannot afford to take risks.

Bear in mind that even though you can eliminate warts on the face by using different techniques, most warts that are located in the facial area usually disappear on their own, even though this could take a few months or even years.
