Are you troubled by moles, warts, and skin tags? If so, don’t feel bad. There are many ways to get rid of them, you can have this sort of benign skin lesion removed if you find them painful, irritable, or simply ugly.

The most common way to remove moles, warts, and skin tags is through surgical procedures but there are still other methods being employed. However, some moles that change in color or shape may be cancerous and doctors may advise you to undergo a surgery. Oftentimes, patients are referred for biopsy wherein the sample of a lesion is examined in the laboratory.

You can remove relatively small and harmless moles, warts or skin tags with the use of a liquid gas or smearing a certain substance on them. The gas or material ‘freezes’ the lesion, which makes it easier to remove. Large-sized skin lesions require surgery. It’s not necessary to stay overnight at the hospital since the surgical operation is not invasive.

Nonetheless, you will need a local anesthetic to numb the area before the removal of a wart or mole. You will be awake during the procedure as only the area around the lesion will be numb. There are times when a general anesthetic is used. If you have received a local anesthetic, you must wait a couple of hours before driving home, if you were given a general anesthetic, you must have someone drive you. Be sure to have someone around for a day or so in case you have a reaction to the medications.

You can keep doing our normal activities after the moles and warts are taken off. However, you have to be extra careful to make sure you don’t bump or scrape the treated area. Some patients may feel some pain or discomfort, and taking Paracetamol will ease this.

You will need to return to the clinic or hospital afterwards, if the stitches are not dissolvable. Watch the area and check for swelling or pus. If you have seen any of these signs, it may mean that the area is infected so contact your physician immediately.

There are no harmful effects from these safe surgical procedures. It is possible to have a reaction to the anesthetic, so you should keep an eye on the incision site for a few days. Removal of a large skin lesion may leave a scar; however, removal of a small lesion usually does not.

Now that you have learned about how moles, warts and skin tags are removed, contact your physician. Your physician will determine the best course of action. Don’t pick at your moles or warts because you will irritate them.
